Chapter Five

Alanna

I had to be insane. I’d had a metal break at some point, and was lying in a hospital bed, hallucinating. I couldn’t be holding Ellis Stone’s hand as he flagged down a cab and pulled me inside. I couldn’t be turning my face to meet his fierce kiss as soon as the door closed. It wasn’t possible. This man didn’t want me. He’d made it clear enough, after all. It must be a dream, and if it was, I was going to enjoy every self-indulgent, guilty moment.

Ellis gripped my hair as he bent my head back, and devoured my mouth. The man knew how to kiss. All the intensity of his charisma, all his focused attention that could leave me breathless if it lingered on me too long, was now rapt upon my body. His hands were strong, masterful, his kiss was devastating, and I knew this night would change me, in ways I didn’t know if I was ready for.

We stopped, the journey had only seemed to take seconds, and then, Ellis was out of the cab, moving around to open my door. He pulled me out and threw an obscenely large bill at the taxi driver.

We moved quickly through the lobby of the opulent building, and straight into the elevator. After what felt like a painful eternity, we reached the door of his penthouse. As soon as the door closed, we snapped together like magnets. He pushed me against the mirrored entrance hall wall, and cupped my face, resting his forehead against mine.

“You’ve no fucking idea how long I’ve wanted this,” he muttered, his words thrilling me.

“You’re right, I don’t,” I admitted.

“Much longer than you think, princess. Since the day I met you, in fact,” he said, dropping his lips to my neck and pushing my head to the side so he could kiss along toward my ear and sucked the earlobe into his mouth.

“Now who’s the liar?” I gasped, as Ellis’s fingers moved to my button-down shirt, and he started to pop the buttons open quickly.

“I’m done lying, Alanna, everything I say, is the stone-cold truth,” he said quietly, stopping a moment just to look at me. I was caught in his gaze, pinned helplessly by his power, and my own desire. “I have imagined this moment for years, and you are even more than I had thought you’d be,” he said, pulling my shirttails from the waistband of my skirt, and letting my shirt fall down my arms. My bra was lacy, and my nipples were poking out like crazy, hard, needy little buds. I couldn’t answer his words, perfect, careless statements that he tossed at me with such recklessness. He couldn’t know what they did to me, and my carefully preserved hate. They shook me through and through. This man had just bought out my father’s company. Hate-fucking him could be expected, given our past, but the way I felt in my heart couldn’t be forgiven. A thrumming, trembling kind of fragile hope.
